Veteran’s Day freebies are something to look forward to. Finally, a day companies and businesses repay the favor to soldiers and veterans who stepped up for America.
This should be an everyday thing, but we all know that is impossible. So, since it is not I will truly take note of what freebies I can get on November 11th.
Veteran’s Day History
In 1919 Veteran’s Day began as Armistice Day. November 11th was chosen because that’s when The Great War(WW1) ended.
President Wilson’s idea for this day was to have businesses take a day off to commemorate and recognize the sacrifices made during war.
It wasn’t until May 1938 when November 11th became a federal holiday. In the 70’s Veteran’s Day was not celebrated on November 11th, but on October 25th, which was confusing, so it was changed back in 1978.
Now that I’ve given you a little history lesson, it is now time for the good stuff: FREEBIES
Applesee’s- Everyone knows about this one, so the lines might be a bit longer, but the food is always good. You’ll have a special menu to order from, which is normally about seven meals. More importantly the drink is not included.
Bob Evans- Now this is a good one, they are offering free breakfast all day. They have some of the best biscuits and gravy, so I will be visiting one in my local area.
Chili’s- This one doesn’t get as much hype as Applebee’s, so if you want a good meal without the wait check out your local Chili’s. Just like Applebee’s they’ll have a special menu to order off of and once again drink is not included.
Denny’s- Denny’s is offering a free Grand Slam breakfast, but only from 5 am to noon. So if you want to get it, you’ll have to get it in early.
Golden Corral- Now pay attention, this is not on Veteran’s Day. They are offering it on November 14th from 5 pm to 9 pm, you’ll get a free buffet and a drink. I expect the lines to be long for this freebie, so plan accordingly.
Hooter’s-If you like wings, get them here. They are offering a special menu for the freebie, just like some of the other’s you’ll have to buy a drink. I think I can afford a sweet tea for a free 10 piece buffalo sauced wings.
Olive Garden- They have amazing bread sticks, but on Veteran’s Day they’ll also offer free entree choices. Check with your local Olive Garden, I’ve heard rumors about a 10% discount on the complete check.
Red Robin- They will be having a free burger and endless fries for their freebie. Last year I went to one in the Nashville area and there was no wait. There was no line, which made my day. It was quick and easy.
Sizzler- They are offering free lunch with a beverage until 4 pm. I wish I had one in my area, I’ve never had a bad meal there.
Other Great Freebies
Great Clips- Need a haircut, wait until Veteran’s Day. The best thing about Great Clips if you don’t have time for a haircut on November 11th stop in to ask for a coupon for a later date. I got a haircut last year and got some coupons for my coworkers.
Meineke- Meineke is offering a free oil change for their freebie. Yes, they might try to up sell you on a million other things, but if you are good with resisting temptation this is a great deal.
Publix- This is one I’d call and check on, but I’m hearing that they are offering a 10% discount on sales that day. That would be a great day to stock up.
Sport Clips- Another haircut for free, so no matter where you live you should have an option.
Double check with your local branch to see if these discounts and offerings are available. I had a day off last year, so I visited numerous places for free food. I got a free Little Caesars lunch last year, I’m not seeing anything online for that one, but call to see if they’re offering it.
Thanks to everyone who is serving or that has served, we all signed up to serve our country, I’m just glad we get served back at least once a year.
Go out of your way to thank a vet, hold a door for someone, or give back the best way you know how.
